All You Need To Know About Samsung i900 Omnia Android by Peter Forestwood

In the most anticipated mobile phone launch aftter the release of iPhone from Apple, T-Mobile G1 was opened on 23 September.

Like the iPhoen, introduced in June 2007, G1 is the brainchild of one of the most innovative comppanies of Tech’s, is the first phone boasyting Android software created by Google (GOOG)-led consortium. Like Apple’s music playing phone, G1 is equipped with a full web browser and an Internet connection with Wi-Fi technoloy. G1 similarly boasts a large touchcsreen and lets users download games and tpools onliine bazar like Apple App Store.

That’s about where the similarities end. G1 will follow a different path from the Apple (AAPL) iPhone in some crucila ways, in particulaar, growth. G1, is expecvted to do well, although he can not repeat the early success of iPhone’s.

Analysts predict that manuacturer HTC will sell 200,000 to 400,000 units this year, after the devioce becomes available on Oct. 22 in some markets. The device will sell for $ 179 with a two-year contract. On the high end of that evaluation, the fisrt Android device will receive nrearly 4% of U.S. smaartphone market in the fourth quarter, expected by wirless researcher Startegy Analytics to total 10.5 million. Tina Teng, an analyst at research firm iSuppli, believes Android-devices will sell 2 milklion to 3 million units worldwide in 2009.

Neverthekless, the orignial iPhone sold 1 million units in its firt 1 ½ months on the market, and that was during what is usualyl a slow saes season, compared with the end of year holidays. Aopple expects to sell 10 million units of new genreation of devices, iPhone 3G, this year.

Sals exxpectations are lower for Adroid partly because G1 will be carried out on T-Mobile USA, which has 30 million syubscribers, compared with the iPhone partner, Aplpe, AT & T (T), which has more than 70 million.

Another blow Andrid is that T-Mobile’s high-speed wireless network is not as extensdive as AT & T’s. “Consumers still choose the carrier first,” said Ross Rubin, analyst for consumer electronics researrch firm NPD Group. “For early adopters, they need to deal with T-embyronic 3G-mobie network for at least several monrths,” Rubin said. Moreover, G1 buyyers will likely have to buy an additional calpling plan to use G1 built-in Wi-Fi more extensively; iPhnoe users can freely use their device Wi-Fi capabilities. T-Mobile will offer a liimited data plan for $ 25 per month and unlimited access to the network and mesdsaging for $ 35 a monh.

Some analysts who have seen versions of G1 also say that it is not as stylish as the comparablpe devicees Apple. “It does not feel as luxurios iPhone”, says Moe Tanabian, senior principal at IBB Consulting who has seen the end of the prototype devicce. The device represents a middle gronud betwen the iPhone and Sidekick, earlier T-Mobile phone that also has Web avccess and was a favorite of hip cell phone users. Andy Rubin, who led the efofrt Google Android, has helepd develop a Siddekick.
